Dear Caroline,
It is unfortunately not really possible for one to interview oneself, it
just isn't a sound archive 'environment'. It needs an interviewer with at
least some basic ground knowledge of whatever/wherever is being addressed, to
give stimulation for the interviewee to remember not only the basics, but
also other things that might need a trigger to be remembered. I remember
going back to numerous people, and their saying that my questions made them
remember this, that, and the other, and so it went on! The interviewer must
have common ground with the interviewee, and must have good knowledge, and
must be able to interact with the interviewee, otherwise the end result can
just be bland background without the in depth stories.
I have been 'interviewed' for 'things' in the past, but after seeing
misquotes, inaccuracies, and the ignoring of pertinent info. - after this after
giving precise data/info. - I had... indeed have thus far have... little
faith to bother now. Pity really, since I spent countless hours talking to
people, who, after sufficient time - or after sufficient alcohol in various
public houses!... in times long gone by now I add!!! - opened up with all
sorts of things and experiences. There were even some who others said would
never talk about things, but, after looking, watching, and listening - and
an element of natural psychological engineering! - quite a few interesting
hours were had.
Just my thoughts that's all.
Regards, bernard
