medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Colleagues,
Many of you will have been contemplating the sessions at Kalamazoo next
May. I would like to bring to your attention a Photoshop workshop that I
will lead there.
Most of us go to interesting historical sites with cameras in hand.
Available light, the equipment we have with us at the moment, and the
amount of bodily contortion we can manage sometimes limit how many of
our shots are successful. Happily, we can now digitally salvage many
problematic photos. I will be offering a Kalamazoo session on "Photoshop
for historians" in which I will demonstrate ways to compensate for
insufficient light, inaccurate color, parallax, intrusive tourists and
labels, and other common problems. I have posted some before-and-after
examples on my web site: http://www.kornbluthphoto.com/Services2.html .
If there is interest and time, I will also demonstrate how to digitally
remove scratches, mold, and other damage in order to revitalize old photos.
Please keep this workshop in mind as you work with your image
collections over the next several months. If you have a valued slide,
negative, or digital photo that needs work, think about sending it to
me. I will select the examples around which to structure my presentation
from those submitted before the conference.
On another subject, a friend recently let me know that he could not find
some images that I have posted. Please remember that my web site has
both a general portfolio meant to demonstrate my capabilities to
potential clients, and a separate "historical archive". You will find
most images useful for lectures etc. in the latter. I have recently
added about a hundred new photos there, and will post more tomorrow. Do
let me know if something you would like to use is not yet digitized; and
of course if you notice an error in my accompanying information please
drop me a note.
I am currently on the Early Medieval Forum, Mediev-l, and
Medieval-Religion. If any of you are on other lists (not necessarily
medieval) and would be willing to forward to them a general notice about
my archive and services, I will be more than happy to send it to you
off-list!
Best to all,
Genevra
