It's a fascinating article. I need to re-read this article several
times, but my initial take on it is that there is an unavoidable tension
between the need of society to rigorously test new medical interventions
and the rights of individuals to get the best therapy available to them.
We can (and should) try to reconcile those two competing interests, but
it is impossible to completely reconcile them. And I would tend to side
with the rights of the individual over the needs of society when such
conflict is unavoidable.
