Dear Mailbase coleagues,
We have resisted adding CRP to our repertoire, hiding
behind our colleagues in Immunology who currently run it,
but not out of hours or at weekends. Now however, we are
being asked to put it on our main chemistry analysers in
order for it to be available 24/7. As we can foresee a
huge increase in work blowing a 50K hole in our budget
(clinical budgeting having been abandoned by our Trust who
caved in to clinicans' pressure as they didn't want to pay
for their profligate requesting and it is easier to squash
a few grumpy pathologists than take on all the clinicians
who want everything yesterday in order to meet meaningless
targets), we are going to have to try to get clinicans to
agree to voluntarily limit their requesting. Has anybody
had any success with this? Does anybody have anything
remotely resembing a protocol for use of CRP that actually
works even part of the time?
best wishes,
Trevor
