Clairvaux was that Cistercian novices were obliged (unlike the Benedictines)
to complete a novitiate of a full 12 months before taking their vows.
i can't help you on that one, it being news to me.

of Bernard's life time (to 1153) and the decade or so after, say c.1130-1170.
ditto.

call "mature entrants", ie someone who had come to the Cistercian Order late
in life (ad succurendum) or from a senior secular position such as a bishop or
a Cathedral Canon?
i was under the impression that "ad succurendum" meant *very* late in life
--perhaps even near death-- not particularly men who were simply "mature" in
their lay or ecclesiastical careers.
i'd appreciate a correction on that notion, however.
in any event, the studies of Anselme Dimier on recruitment and personnel at
Clairvaux may be of some use:
“En marge du recrutement de Clairvaux,” in A. Dimier, Saint Bernard
“pêcheur de Dieu” (Paris, 1953), I, pp. 103-127.
"Les religieux de Clairvaux, moines, convers et novices, sous l’abbatiat de
Saint Bernard,” in A. Dimier, Saint Bernard “pêcheur de Dieu” (Paris,
1953), I, pp. 173-198.
an extraordinary number of "conversions" may be attributed to Bernie --men
(and women) of all ages, it would seem:
“Saint Bernard et le recrutement de Clairvaux,” Revue Mabillon, XLII,
1952, p. 17-30, p. 56-68 et p. 69-78.
these have been greatly expanded and more fully documented by:
Laurent “Veyssière, Le personnel de l’abbaye de Clairvaux au XIIe
siècle,” Cîteaux, Commentarii Cistercienses, LI, 2000, pp. 17-90.
quite a piece of work, that.
not available on-line, alas.
