I'm surprised at the lack of any other reaction. Perhaps this is due to the
absence of any specific mention of "pathology" or "laboratory", but three
additional points to ponder:
1. Excerpts from the NHS section in "The coalition: our programme for
government" (released May 2010; pdf created 19 May 2010)
- "We will stop the top-down reorganisations of the NHS that have got
in the way of patient care"
- "We will ensure that there is a stronger voice for patients locally
through directly elected individuals on the boards of their local PCT"
- "The local PCT will act as a champion for patients. . . . It will also take
responsibility for improving public health"
So why does this overarchig policy document conflict with today's White
Paper (allegedly formulated by Lansley during his 6.5 years as
opposition spokesman on health)?
a. Cameron & Clegg never asked him
b. his ideas have somehow changed radically in the last 2 months
c. they're all a load of lying *******s
2. NHS Pension Scheme members should note carefully a (newly-
revealed in 4.37) element in John Hutton's public sector pension review
remit:
". . . the impact on labour market mobility between the public and private
sectors, and the extent to which pensions may act as a barrier to
greater plurality of provision of public services . . ."
3. A coalition 'aspiration' (hence the use of "seek to") on which they
seem to have lost to the EU already with regard to nurses, and
presumably also doctors:
- "We will seek to stop foreign healthcare professionals . . . unless they
have passed robust language and competence tests"
Best wishes for a happy future under the coalition:
