Dear Colleagues,
The Ultrafast VUV and X-Ray Science meeting, a satellite to the 37th International Conference on Vacuum Ultraviolent and X-ray Physics, will be held at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory July 19-21, 2010. Registration is open at http://www-conf.slac.stanford.edu/vuvx2010. The meeting will feature scientific talks on Monday and Tuesday with a poster session for contributed papers on Monday evening. Abstracts can be submitted on the conference registration site.
The meeting will feature results from FELs and laser-based sources, and will include the following invited speakers on Monday and Tuesday (with a few slots left to be filled from contributed papers):
Christoph Bostedt - TBA
John Costello - TBA
Hermann Durr - X-ray view of femtosecond charge and spin dynamics in strongly correlated electron materials
Ernie Glover - Ultrafast science at the Advanced Light Source
Elliot Kanter - Observation of atomic multiphoton X-ray absorption processes at LCLS
Reinhard Kienberger - Attosecond spectroscopy on solids
Richard Kirian - Femtosecond protein nanocrystallography at the LCLS
Oleg Kornilov - Ultrafast emission of Rydberg atoms from pure helium droplets excited by femtosecond VUV pulses
Dick Lee - A brief perspective for high energy density studies on VUV and X-ray FELs
Filipe Maia - Ultrafast single particle imaging of cells and virus
Michael Meyer - Atomic photoionization in combined intense XUV and optical laser fields
Bob Nagler - Bleaching core electron transitions with highly intense Free Electron Laser pulses
Anders Nilsson - TBA
Bruce Patterson - The SwissFEL X-ray Laser Project: plans for the machine and its applications
Nina Rohringer - Creating high-intensity sub-femtosecond x-ray pulses by pumping an atomic x-ray laser with LCLS
Artem Rudenko - TBA
Thomas Tschentscher - FEL radiation parameters at the European XFEL
Kiyoshi Ueda - Multiphoton multiple excitation of atoms, molecules and clusters by EUVFEL at SPring-8
Thorsten Weber - TBA
On Wednesday morning a special "tutorial" or introductory session on the operation of the LCLS will be held and will feature the following talks from LCLS staff:
Joseph Frisch - The LCLS and future X-ray FELs
James Welch - Turning Electrons into Light: The Undulators
Henrik Loos - Electron and photon beam diagnostics
various - Instruments of the LCLS
TBD - LCLS-II: What's next?
Early registration is open until June 21st at http://www-conf.slac.stanford.edu/vuvx2010. The registration fee includes all of the sessions, an opening reception, a poster session Monday night for contributed papers and dinner on Tuesday night. Registrations received after the June 21st deadline will be accommodated as space permits.
