A wallmounted lockable Playstation console was installed at our new Shepherds Bush Library in an area zoned for teenage use. It has proved to be very popular since we opened in September 2009. We would have liked to have linked the booking of it into our iCAM People's Network, but for technical reasons this is not possible. At the moment it is worked on a first come first served basis, which works to a certain degree. Often more that one person congregates in the area to view the game being played - this can result in noisy and boisterous behaviour from those involved. Staff have had to intervene when it has become too much and is disturbing other customers. The threat of swiching the console off should the misbehaviour continue usually does the trick though! We have resisted implementing a paper and pen booking system but might have to seriously consider this should the present arrangement breakdown. We do also intervene when another person indicates they wish to use the service.
If we were to have another console, this would alleviate some of the issues above.
Hope this helps.
Kind reagrds,

Subject: Playstation 3s in libraries
Dear all,
I'm interested in finding out how other libraries manage the use of games consoles, specifically Playstation 3s.
Do you charge per session or charge a deposit for the games/controllers? Do you use them in specific group sessions or make them available on request to individuals? What about the security of the console and controllers?
Any help would be appreciated and will be summarised for the group.
Many thanks,
Jennifer Clark
