Social Science Research Intern – (job# 572579)

Description

We are accepting intern applications for either Social Science/Design Researchers or Consumer-Driven Market Research Analysts. You will be joining the User Experience Group (UEG) -- a multidisciplinary team of social scientists, design researchers, interaction designers, and human factors experts. UEG was established by Intel Fellow, Genevieve Bell four years ago and now has an established track record of planning and conducting original research (qualitative and quantitative), and analyzing secondary research in order to inform consumer-driven product strategies in Intel’s Digital Home Group (DHG). DHG develops visionary computing platforms that anticipate consumer and industry trends world-wide to enable the delivery of compelling end-user experiences on a wide range of home electronics products, with a particular focus on bringing the Internet experience to television.

We are offering one internship starting January or February 2010 and a second internship starting May or June 2010. These internships are limited to currently-enrolled graduate students. Interns must be located in the Portland, Oregon area during the course of the internship to work on-site with the research team, and must be eligible to work in the US.

Intern responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

- Designing and implementing a research plan with guidance and direction from the UEG team

- Conducting primary field research (Social Science/Design Researcher)

- Analyzing and reporting on secondary research

- Coordinating relationships with vendors and study participants

- Establishing standard procedures for interfacing with study participants

- Documenting and reporting research findings

Qualifications

Applicants should be college graduates with a bachelor's degree or higher, currently pursuing an advanced degree (master’s or PhD). Preferred areas of study include: social sciences, design research, statistics, economics, and business.

- Experience planning and conducting research (consumer, market, industry preferred; academic research with practical application)

- Experience analyzing and rolling up research findings

- Experience reading and analyzing statistical market research reports (Consumer Driven Market Researcher)

- Ability to work autonomously and respond to guidance from a multidisciplinary team

- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills

- Self starter with ability to lead a project and independently implement an action plan

- Ability to influence internal project stakeholders and drive engagement and participation in your project

- Ability to network in a large, diverse organization in order to drive high quality results in a short time frame

- Ability to balance personal research interests and objectives with the needs of the business group

- High tolerance for a dynamic work environment with rapidly changing priorities

- Willingness to jump in and lend a hand on multiple projects

- Willingness and ability to travel

- An interest in TV, online video, and the creation and consumption of media is a bonus

Business Group

Intel’s Digital Home Group (DHG) is powering a new vision of television. As Intel's consumer platform group, DHG’s mission is to be the #1 platform supplier to IP-connected Consumer Electronics (CE) market segments. As part of this charter DHG is proliferating the next generation connected entertainment experience on Intel Architecture based system on a chip (SoC) products. These products are optimized for a new generation of set-top boxes, media players and TVs as well as discrete products (processors, chipsets, demodulators and tuners) for Internet-enabled CE devices devices that will deliver a rich user experience across a variety of consumer devices in the home. In August 2008 DHG introduced the Intel Media Processor CE 3100, the first in a new family of purpose-built SOCs for CE devices based on Intel Architecture. On the same day, Intel and Yahoo! Inc. previewed plans for the Widget Channel, a TV application framework optimized for TV and related CE devices that use the Intel Architecture. Intel's comprehensive family of platform solutions for CE is complemented by tuners, demodulators and front-end reference designs for digital TV. The key to DHG’s success is in our people. We have over 800 passionate employees around the world that bring our products and our vision to fruition.
