In his book on screenwriting, The Writer's Journey, Christopher Vogler
employs the concept of the shapeshifter as one of the story
archetypes. Vogler refers to both Joseph Campbell's Hero with a
Thousand Faces and Jungian psychology, but I have been unable to
locate the term in either work. Nor has extensive googling helped much
further. So where does the expression shapeshifter/shapeshifting
originate?
Thanks for your help!
Henry
