medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
There are two branches of this great medieval order:
- the Ordo Cisterciensis (O.Cist.), often called 'Cistercians',
'White Monks' or (in monastic circles) the 'Common Observance'
and
- the Ordo Cisterciensium Strictioris Observantiae (O.C.S.O.), better
known as the Trappists
The monks at Hauterive are of the O.Cist. variety.
