I agree...but I'd bet some version of the failsafe mechanism that troubles Tim (and many of us, I suspect) will survive the conference process. If not, the Republican/Blue Dog coalition might just vote against it...But if it passes, it will leave many people priced out of the market.

The probabilities of 'a' reform have not changed much. Whether you think this is a major one (ie able to satisfy the claims made for access, cost and quality), is one question for which the answer is clear. This outcome in 2009 will not satisfy that standard for sure. But whatever emerges will be touted as a victory and denounced as a crime against the American way. My bet is that the House formulation will win more of the battles in the conference committee, but I would not bet my house on it.
