Terry: Unless you have a good model of how biological processes inform
cognition a theory of designing can only be raised on the basis of
human experience, learning and beliefs. But your view on theory
building seems unnecessarily nihilistic and limiting. I don't agree
that we can function without using design language and thought. We
often overrule signals from biological substrates through conceptual
and procedural models (habits, preferences, technologies, etc) that
help us organize, guide and express both cognition and behavior. While
emotions, my favorite bridge to physiological substrates, doubtless
color all thought and expression they can be managed by the cumulative
knowledge that each of us has acquired.
