Dear Members (with apologies for layout previously)
EBM is of high interest to the Continuing Medical Education/Continuing Professional
Development community--with recent legislation the idea is gaining serious momentum in
the US now, and it’s been at the core of European activities for a while. Some (especially
in the UK) would see much commonality between CME/CPD and Evidence Based Teaching.
After all, evaluating current clinical practice vs. EBM should the starting point of any
CME/CPD activity to effectively identify the educational needs of the learners, and with
recent regulatory expectations for pharma companies in Europe to define how they will
will conduct unbiased education in the disease area of interest (specifically non-
promotion), there is ever increasing overlap.
This post is two-fold:
1. To inform the group about the Second meeting of the European CME Forum which is
taking place in London, UK, 18-19 November 2009. Speakers include experts from CME
accreditation bodies, educational institutes, pharmaceutical companies that support CME
activities, and education providers. See www.europeanCMEforum.eu for more, also for
extensive written and webcast archives from the 2008 meeting.
If you are interested in attending, drop me a direct email for a 10% discount code --
HCPs and those in academia get 50% off as well. As the details are finalised there is an
Early Bird registration rate, this finishes at the end of this month.
2. To ask the group just how closely does the EBM community look into and identify the
unmet educational needs of clinicians? Are there any tools/models that are in use?
Who/which institutes/organisations effectively evaluates the gaps between current clinical
practice and Best Clinical Practice?
Many thanks
