Dear colleagues,
NT-ProBNP/BNP exemplifies how difficult the handling of panic values is.
Indeed, very high values may cause panic typicall poiting to
acute/chronic heart failure. However, by excluding heart failure, normal
values may cause panic, too (consider pulmonary embolism). Therefore, in
the interest of our patients we should better report more results
immediately.
I think that follow-up results in the same range of results
(definition?) are no reason to report immediately.
