We know we have a similar problem although have not been
able to quantitate it due to computer issues. On
questioning medical staff, they apparently just assume
they will be alerted to anything significant by phone,
something we probably encourage by a proactive policy of
phoning significant abnormals and anything significant to
come out of clinical authorisation, which also operates
out of hours ad at weekends. Perhaps if we did less they
would use the system more?
