Dear colleagues,
I'm writing up the archaeozoological material from two cesspits
excavated in a building that served as the late medieval prison of
Malines (Belgium). The food remains show that the inmates received
considerably more than water and bread.
My question is now whether someone knows of other studies of consumption
refuse from late or postmedieval European prisons? Ideal would be that
also information is included about the comparison between prison food
and that of the 'free' citizens. Data on ecological material describing
the living conditions within prison buildings (parasites, commensals,
etc.) is also most wanted.
many thanks beforehand,
Anton
