Hi Jillian,
_Nyctereutes tingi__, the older form, was in the Yushe basin from late Miocene to mid-Pliocene (5.5 to 3 Ma). _Nyctereutes sinensis_ appeared and went extinct in the Pliocene, but I'm not sure of dates. The modern racoon dog of Asia, _N.procyonoides_ is a descendant of _N.sinensis_ (and _N.megamastoides_ of Europe) and replaced it in the Pliocene and has (obviously) persisted to present. I'm not familiar with Chinese Paleolithic site reports with direct associations with H.erectus, Archiac Homo, or H.s.s., but my hunch is that _Nyctereutes_ is present in many such assemblages.
Good luck!
Anne

Dear all
Does anyone know when Nyctereutes sinensis went extinct?
Also I would appreciate any references of hominid accumulations where
this species has been identified.
Best wishes,
Jillian
