The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel,
Institute of Pre- and Protohistoric Archaeology invites applications for a W2-professorship in
Archaeozoology and Isotope Research tenable as soon as it may be arranged.
The focus of the professorship is on archaeozoology. The successful applicant is expected to have
beyond traditional archaeozoological methods also broad experience with stable isotope systems of H,
C, N, O, and Sr applications for the reconstruction of ancient population dynamics and of
(predominantly) Holocene environmental conditions.
With respect to interdisciplinary collaboration at Kiel University, the appointee must contribute
to the synthesis of archaeological, paleoecological and paleoclimatological evidences as well as to
quantitative and qualitative analysis of natural and cultural landscapes.
Within the frame of the German Excellence Initiative the participation to the interdisciplinary
Graduate School “Human Development in Landscapes” (www.uni-kiel.de/landscapes/) is expected.
The holder of the professorship will collaborate to existing curricula at the Institute of Pre- and
Protohistoric Archaeology, as well as to the establishment of a planed international curriculum in
“Archaeobotany and Archaeozoology” (Msc).
Applicants must therefore possess a proven record of teaching and academic administrative
experience, a record of successful fund attraction, a proven ability to publish innovative,
high-quality research, and a successful Junior professorship, an University habilitation or an
equivalent qualification (i.e. an outstanding PhD and publications in high-ranking international
journals).

am Institut für Ur- und Frühgeschichte der CAU Kiel ist eine neu
eingerichtete Universitätsprofessur (W2) für Archäozoologie und
Isotopenforschung zu besetzen. Im Anhang finden Sie den
Ausschreibungstext. Ich wäre Ihnen/Euch sehr dankbar dafür, die
Ausschreibung möglichst breit bekannt zu machen.
Die Verbindung aus Archäozoologie und Isotopenforschung stellt
sicherlich
einen interessanten Arbeitsbereich dar. Gefordert wird ausdrücklich
nicht
unbedingt die Habilitation.
Im wissenschaftlichen Umfeld könnte die Arbeit sowohl an einem
archäologischen Institut, an dem neben der Archäozoologie vor allem auch
die Archäobotanik und Pollenanalyse angesiedelt ist, als auch der
Zusammenhang mit der Isotopenforschung an der Uni Kiel recht reizvoll
sein. Natürlich ist auch die Zusammenarbeit in der Arbeitsgruppe
Archäozoologie (Schloss Gottorf, Universität Kiel) äußerst spannend.
