Zooarchaeological Perspectives On Climate Change And Human Response*
The present crisis of global warming involves much debate about causes
and consequences. Involved in the debates are questions about climatic
variations that have occurred in the past, the extent and causes of
those variations, and human responses to climatic alterations. This
session proposes to explore these questions from a zoological point of
view. Within this broad scope, a range of perspectives exists that can
include, but is not limited to:
- expansion or contraction of environmental niches or zones
- indicator species in the faunal record
- tracking temporal variation in climate through fauna
- human responses to qualitative or quantitative variation
in fauna
- theoretical frameworks for discussion of human response to
climatic and faunal variation
The outcomes of this session are anticipated to be the session itself,
the identification of a network of interested researchers, and
publication of an edited volume of fully expanded papers.
