Dear all,

We plan to build the Web site later this evening (Monday),
Central European time, so this is a Last Call for comments
on the following documents as discussed in the latest
teleconference.

I believe we have completed the corrections discussed on the
call [1] but would appreciate if some of you could double-check.

Many thanks,
Tom

News item on SWAP review

2009-03-02, The Usage Board has published a review of the
Scholarly Works Application Profile (SWAP) [1], which was
found to conform to the profile review criteria [2] in all
respects but one. The specific point on which SWAP does
not follow the criteria relates to the matching algorithm
specified in the Description Set Profile specification,
currently still a working draft on which feedback is being
sought [3]. The issue could be resolved either by a small
revision in SWAP or by a change in that matching algorithm.

   and the SWAP profile"

   [...]

In light of this discrepancy, the Usage Board cannot say that
SWAP, in its current form, entirely conforms with the review criteria.

The issue could be resolved either by a small revision in
SWAP or by a change in that matching algorithm. Possible
revisions to SWAP include combining the two statement
templates into one single, "weaker" statement, or changing
one of the statement templates to use a different property
list constraint (e.g., by using rdf:type for one of the
two). However, these changes were considered to be outside
the boundaries of "minor editorial correction" and more
properly an issue for the SWAP maintenance community.

Alternatively, it was suggested that the matching
algorithm defined in the draft DSP specification itself be
re-evaluated in light of the SWAP example -- a task for
the DCMI Architecture Forum. While the Usage Board review
did not produce a "positive" result, it had the effect
of uncovering an issue of more general significance for
the automated processing of metadata. The profile review
criteria have been revised in order to describe this issue
   with more clarity.
