The Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU) at the University of Leeds is a leader in the field of clinical trials and is one of only 26 clinical trials units across the UK to be awarded full registration status by the UK Clinical Research Collaboration. The Unit conducts national and international randomised clinical trials in a variety of clinical fields (cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke, mental health, obesity, skin and care of the elderly) and is developing trials in musculoskeletal disease and oral health. The CTRU has a strong methodological division associated with clinical trial research.
We are looking to appoint talented and enthusiastic individuals to join a friendly team of 12 statisticians supporting the Unit's work on clinical trials, all roles are available for a fixed term of three years (with the possibility of extension dependent on funding).
These posts offer excellent opportunities for career development within a well established statistical team. You will work on, or develop methodology for, internationally renowned trials designed to answer questions of real importance to clinicians and patients, ultimately improving disease outcomes and patient care. Opportunities also exist for PhD registration, for interested candidates.
Senior/Principal Statistical Methodologist - Full-time/Part-time - minimum 50% FTE
You will help to develop innovative statistical methodologies for trial design, conduct and analysis, in one or more of the following areas: early phase trials; medical device trials; evaluation of complex interventions; patient reported outcomes; survival analysis and mathematical/statistical modelling. For the more senior role you will undertake and supervise others undertaking statistical methodological research projects within the CTRU Statistical Methodology Division.
With an MSc or PhD with a major statistical component, you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills; be able to work well within a multi-disciplinary team and have experience in developing statistical methodology. For the more senior post, you will have considerable experience in statistical methodology development or complex clinical trial methodology, project management and people management skills and a nationally recognised research profile in statistical/clinical trial methodology. Senior Medical Statistician/Principal Statistician - Full-time/Part-time - minimum 50% FTE
You will work in a multi-disciplinary team including statisticians, programmers, clinicians, health economists, health service researchers and trial managers and will be involved in a wide range of statistical activities, including preparing grant applications, design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials. For the more senior role you will provide the statistical strategic lead and statistical supervision during the design and implementation for a number of complex trials within one of the CTRU Portfolios.
With an MSc or PhD with a major statistical component, you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills; be able to work well within a multi-disciplinary team and have experience in clinical trials. For the more senior post, you will have considerable experience in complex clinical trials, project management and people management skills and a nationally recognised research profile in clinical trials and medical statistics. Both posts are offered at University Grade 7 (£29,704 - £35,469 p.a.) or University Grade 8 (£36,532 - £43,622 p.a.) depending on experience
Medical Statistician - Full-time/Part-time - minimum 50% FTE
University Grade 6 (£24,152- £28,839 p.a.) depending on experience
Working in a multi-disciplinary team including statisticians, programmers, clinicians, health economists, health service researchers and trial managers, you will be involved in a wide range of statistical activities, including preparing grant applications, design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials.
Along with an opportunity to further broaden your expertise through general consulting to health professionals and methodological research, depending on individual interests, opportunities also exist for PhD registration, for interested candidates.
