Dear Ana,
Since the body somehow represents the natural interface for our relationship with the environment, I'd suggest that you take a closer look to its meaning and its relationship with emotions. Emotions are not just individual reactions but the result of many external elements that configure our actions.
- “The Body. The Key Concepts" by Lisa Blackman (Berg Publishers, 2008)
- “The Meaning of the Body. Aesthetics of Human Understanding” by Mark Johnson (U. of Chicago Press, 2007)
These are two excellent works on the Affective Body, the Feeling Body, Dispositions, Emotional Dimensions of the Body, etc.
I’ll be more than happy to share whatever I run into, since I am myself conducting a similar research, but in a different scale: HCI in Public Spaces, integration of new technologies in exhibition environments.
Hope this gives you a hand.
Best,
Alejandra Mery K.

Asunto: References on "design and emotion" and assistive devices
Dear all,
I am a PhD student currently conducting research on the emotional impact of
assistive devices in people´s lives.
Somehow I couldn’t manage to find any book, article or paper that addresses
this issue. I came across several references on “design and
emotion”, “assistive devices” and “universal design”, but none of them actually
brings all terms together.
I would truly appreciate it if you could help me with any material you know of.
Thanks,
Ana Correia de Barros
