I am currently seeking to recruit two master’s level graduate students to
work on zooarchaeological materials from Middle Holocene habitation sites on
Lake Baikal, Siberia. I am particularly interested in recruiting students to
work on projects involving analyses of red deer, roe deer, and bear season
of death as well as more generalized zooarchaeological projects. Students
ideally will have background in zooarchaeological methods and theory; the
ability to speak Russian is highly desirable but is not a requirement. All
archaeological materials to be analyzed are already excavated and derive
from both habitation sites and cemeteries. Funds are available to transport
and house students in Russia for primary data collection. All work will
occur within the context of the Baikal Archaeological Project
(http://baikal.arts.ualberta.ca/), a multi-national research endeavour
investigating Middle Holocene hunter-gatherers of the Lake Baikal region.
This project is centered at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada
(www.ualberta.ca). Students interested are requested to contact Dr. Robert
Losey ([log in to unmask]), coordinator of zooarchaeological research
for the Baikal project. Please feel free to forward this message to those
you think might be interested in applying to our graduate program.
