Could you expand a little on the deficiencies of Heaney's translation? I
remember finding it ponderous (Alison Croggon's first fitt is so much more
satisfying to read) but my work in Old English (as American graduate schools
called it then) is so far behind me that I couldn't defend my own judgment.
