Thank you! This is exactly the sort of information I've been unable
to find."
Chris, As I was shoveling stuff out of my study with a backhoe, I came upon the following book with the following description:
_Other Middle Ages: Witnesses at the Margins of Medieval Society_ Michael Goodich, ed. U Penn Press, 1998.
"The book is divided into sections dealing with the Jewish community, apostates and converts, sexual nonconformists, victims of the Devil, Christian heretics, and the liminal and temporarily marginalized. [Sounds line New Orleans at Mardi Gras.] The texts...illuminate mundane and extraordinary aspects of their daily lives - child rearing, social activities, economic difficulties, sexuality, dreams, emotional instability, and gender relations among them."
The book consists of translations of primary sources and offers something other than "charters, papal bulls, conciliar decisions..." I haven't read it but it sounds like what you're looking for. Unless I seriously misread your interest in this and previous posts.
