Applications are invited for a continuing Lectureship at Level B in
Literature since 1900 in the Department of English within the School
of Letters, Art and Media. The Department of English currently has
twenty-nine academic staff, and offers undergraduate and postgraduate
education and training in all fields and periods of English language
and literature, from the medieval to the contemporary. The position is
available from January 2009, but applications from those able to take
up post in July 2009 are also encouraged.
The Department is seeking a Lecturer who has demonstrable expertise in
British and/or American literature (including film) from 1900 to the
present to complement its existing teaching and research strengths in
20th and 21st century studies. The appointee will be expected to teach
undergraduate and Honours units of study, to contribute to
postgraduate coursework units, and to supervise Honours and
postgraduate research students in relevant fields. In addition, they
will be expected to undertake administration and curriculum
development as required, and to pursue an active research program.
Applicants must have a doctorate in English Literature and be able to
provide evidence of research publications and current research
activity in British and/or American Literature since 1900. Expertise
in contemporary literature would be particularly welcome. Experience
in university teaching at undergraduate level and ability to
contribute to more than one area of departmental teaching are
essential. Experience in university lecturing and in the supervision
of Honours and postgraduate students are desirable.
The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a
satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a
University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment
for new appointees.
Remuneration package: A$86,731 - A$102,993 pa (which includes a base
salary Lecturer Level B A$73,289 - A$87,030 pa, leave loading and up
to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).
