medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From: John Briggs <[log in to unmask]>
>The Rupertsberg manuscript was the "best" MS, rather than being necessarily
"the original" one. It was "lost" during the war, rather than being known to
have been destroyed. There are only black and white photographs of it - the
colour ones are from the modern copy.
yes, "lost" now rings a bell.
"lost" implies, at least theoretically, the possibility of being "found" --and
recently an important Chartrain manuscript, also "lost" since the SACPE, has
been "found," proving that Exceptions to Rules can, indeed, happen.
as i said, however, the reproduction is astonishingly accurate --i literally
could not tell the difference between the two in the photographs.
thanks, John, for the reinforcement --these Senior Moments are painful enough,
without actually being True.
