Diabetes Trials Unit, University of Oxford
Two Senior Medical Statistician Positions
Grade 8: Salary £34,793 - £41,545 with a discretionary range to £45,397 p.a.
Two highly motivated and innovative Senior Medical Statisticians, with a
proven track record in research and clinical trials, are being sought to
help expand the statistical and clinical trial activity of the University of
Oxford Diabetes Trials Unit (DTU). The DTU is the largest Academic Research
Organisation (ARO) worldwide that specialises in performing diabetes-related
mega-trials and forms an integral part of the 5* rated University of Oxford
Nuffield Department of Medicine. The Unit, together with its
internationally recognised Statistics and Modelling Group (SMG) headed by Dr
Sanjoy Paul, designs, runs and analyses large-scale national and
multinational interventional outcome trials, performs disease specific
genetic and biomarker studies and undertakes challenging statistical
methodological research.
The post holders will be expected to develop and publish their own research
programmes, report results at international meetings, hold grants in their
own right, manage and help train junior statisticians and supervise MSc
and/or DPhil students. Each will oversee the statistical management of at
least two mega-trials as well as working on smaller scale studies and
projects. In addition to working with a multidisciplinary team of in-house
experts, they will be expected to liaise with other senior statisticians on
a global basis as part of the Unit’s numerous academic and pharmaceutical
collaborations. The DTU provides a stimulating working environment with
excellent opportunities for further training, career development and
academic advancement.
Applicants should have an MSc or above in Statistics or a related subject
with experience in medical statistics and/or epidemiology and expertise in
advanced survival analysis, multivariate modelling and exploratory data
analysis techniques. Familiarity with SAS or STATA is essential for these
positions. Experience with R would be an asset.
Both positions are funded for three years in the first instance with a high
probability that they will be extended, contingent upon continued research
funding. Salary is dependent on previous experience and benefits include 38
days holiday (including public holidays) and a contributory pension scheme.
