medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Many thanks for the great replies. I knew about Pseudo-Isidore--mother
church shows up elsewhere in that collection. Mostly I wanted to know
if the forgers of the False Decretals made up the term, or if it was
already in current use in the ninth century or even before. The
Hincmar/Hincmar controversy has great material, but since it comes right
after Pseudo-Is., it doesn't answer that question. Any other
suggestions? Megan
