Hello to all,
Isn't is odd though that we have the "art and design" umbrella (e.g.
in academia),
and that a lot of energy is spent (wasted ?) in discussing whether
this artefact is art or this is design,
-both by artists, curators, critics, and by designers-.
The same is true when dealing with engineering and design (who are
under separate umbrellas, funny enough),
a lot of energy being spent there by designers trying to convince
engineers that design is right behind the window.
What are the commonalities ? Or the differences ? and the clichés !!!
Why attempt to make descriptive definitions (and in most cases of the
results), and not look for predicates (of the process), which in my
view is more adapted to encompass the qualitative aspect of the
discipline.
Why not start by embracing the meaning of the interesting proposal of
L. Moholy-Nagy "design is an attitude".
Regards to all,
Jean
