medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Can anyone suggest original sources or discussions of marriage in the 14thC -- I am interested here because of my current work on the Palaiologoi. After he was married [after he was 50], Manuel II P wrote a dissertation on marriage, saying that it was a great distraction to a manly man with real concerns, & that he was only doing it because of needing heirs & setting a good example. I find a vague resemblance to Erec & Enic here, & Manuel was [1] a book person, & [2] highly westernized & had introduced tournaments to the Constantinople court.
Vaguely useful suggestions much appreciated. This topic is relevant to Med-R because everything the Byzantines did had religious overtones.
