Dear Judith
The Departmenet of Maps, Pictures and Photographs at the Royal Library Copenhagen have combined collections of maps, pictures and aerial photographs- in fact we have very huge collections of more than 5 mill. Aerial Photographs both oblique and vertical and from this year also huge collections of digital aerial photographs. I think these collections are supplementing each other and especially in the future with orto photo production they are having very similar problems. I hope to use experibnce from the different collections in the future to combine new search facilities using maps in the aerial photo search and aerial photo in the map and picture search, but as probably most other collections we need more skilled people to solve these problems especially more GIS educated persons.
best wishes

Subject: air photos in map collections
Are there any map collections out there which also have air photos? At
Reading , we are preparing to move the map collection into the main
library building, and one of the questions which has come up is what to
do with our small but fairly frequently used collection of air photos.
It has been suggested that they move into the University's Special
Collections unit, which initially sounds great as they would be in
climate controlled conditions. However Special Collections are
basically archives, and I am concerned that the restrictions they would
place on use would have a negative impact on the use of the photos. Do
any other collections have experience of this? I'd be grateful for any
information.
Thanks
Judith
