The Basel Institute for Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics,
University Hospital Basel, Switzerland
is seeking a
Biostatistician, PhD (80% to 100%)
with a PhD in statistics or mathematical sciences, profound experience
in applied statistics (preferably in the medical field), and excellent
skills in SAS, R or Stata. You should be fluent in English, have
excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to
explain complicated statistical issues to non-statisticians. Fluency in
German is not a must, but we expect applicants to acquire basic
understanding of German.
Your main responsibilities are:
● Statistical analysis and interpretation of data from large
national and international cohort studies and clinical trials (mainly
phase III and IV)
● Develop own (methodological) projects and innovative approaches
for challenging observational data analysis
● Provide statistical input to protocol development of clinical
trials and observational studies
● Input to biostatistics and data management processes
● Limited consulting and teaching activity for clinical
researchers and PhD students in epidemiology
The key interfaces are:
● Staff of the institute, in particular the head of the institute
● Other biostatisticians and project leaders from the institute
and hospital based projects
● Liaison with the biostatistician from the Clinical Trial Unit
This position is open from October1, 2008 for a minimum of 3 years with

commensurate with qualifications (University of Basel rating system).
