I suppose the nub of the issue is what is meant by "is derived from".
I agree with Andrew that at first glance it seems something of a
stretch.
I think there are two questions to consider:
(i) in the general case, is it possible that a concept "is derived from"
(in the sense DCMI intends) a document?
(ii) in ths example, is the intent really to say that the concept (of
the Madagascar Fish Eagle, a type of bird) "is derived from" that
document?
I suppose you could argue that e.g. the concept of "Marxism" "is derived
from" the collected works of Marx? So the answer to (i) is probably
"yes", or at least I'd struggle to rule it out as a possibility.
On (ii), this particular example does seem a rather odd one. In this
example, is the relationship really one of "derivation"? Isn't it just
that the document "describes" the concept (as do many other documents
e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madagascar_Fish-eagle )?
