Thanks to those who reponded to my request for help. There are at least 8
laboratories offering fructosamine, so there will be no problem getting a
comparison with the glycated Hb results. Other good pointers were, 1) a
possible interference by high ethanol ingestion with glycation or
measurement, 2) a review of the mean glucose data vs HbA1c for a
population showing a wide spread of expected values, see attachment, 3)an
undetected Hb variant which I think we can definitely rule out. Our
diabetologist will ask the patient about his EtOH consumption, (his GGT
was 400 - 500 U/L in 2003 and is now ~150. As far as I'm aware Malibu is
not the tipple of choice in the N.E. but I'm sure the effect is not
beverage specific! I'll post again if we find anything interesting,
