If you are talking about secular canons, then you mean "collegiate
churches". If you mean "abbeys", then you don't mean "secular canons".

You would appear to be talking about "Royal Abbeys". Why use a term like
"collegial", which is either meaningless, or if it has a meaning it has one
which is incorrect in this context? (Especially as the term does not appear
in your source?)
