medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The canon law takes off in the 12th century, esp. after it becomes an
academic subject in Bologna & Paris in the 2nd half of the century.
Requests for papal decisions also multiplied in that period. Thus
collections of Decretals. The development of curial bureaucracy in the
same period & later is too big a topic to address just now, but things
were very institutionalized in the Avignon period with standard forms
for standard bits of business.
