The Biblioteca Digital Hispanica is now accessible at
http://www.bne.es/BDH/index.htm where you will also find a promotional
video illustrating the contents and functionalities of the project. Access
to other previously digitized projects, including the Digital Historical
Press (Hemeroteca Digital) with 140 complete collections of magazines of
the 18th - 19th centuries, is also available at the BDH portal.
The BDH Project is the result of a partnership with RED.ES, a state-owned
company for the promotion of the information society in Spain. It contains
10.000 items (some 500.000 images) representing the rich variety of the BNE
collections. Languages of navigation incluye English, Spanish and all
national languages of Spain.
Last 31 January, the BNE has signed a partnership agreement with Telefonica
(one of the three major Telecoms in the world) for a 5-year programme of
massive digitization with a budget of 10 million euros. BNE shall announce
very soon the list of materials to be included in this ambitious project
aiming the digitization of 200.000 works (some 25 million images) to be
complemented by the digitization efforts already on-going under the BNE´s
own regular budget.
