I'm not so sure that we thought that plague attacked a wide demographic
spread. Ray Lock's article on Walsham-le-Willows looked at plague
mortality as evidenced in the manor court rolls, and came to similar
conclusions--healthy and young adult survived in greater numbers than
the elderly, sick and young. His article for those interested is Lock,
R. The Black Death at Walsham-le-Willows, <I>Suffolk Institute of
Archaeology and History<I> (1992): 316-37. While this might be an
obscure publication for those outside of English history, it has been
cited by others, which is how I learned of it. Although the NYT article
is interesting, and a good source of alternative evidence.
