I received this from a colleague, and I believe several of you will

With all good wishes for the new year, George

Allen J. Frantzen's online electronic edition of the Anglo-Saxon
penitentials is now available at www.Anglo-Saxon.net. Each manuscript
of each penitential is represented in a diplomatic edition, and one
version of each penitential is available in translation. Supporting
materials include descriptions of each text and manuscript; background
commentary on penance and penitentials; an index to cultural content
(ranging from food to sexual practices) linked to the texts; and Allen
J. Frantzen's essay, "The 'Literariness' of the Penitentials,"
originally published in French as the introduction to Michel Lejeune's
translation of The Literature of Penance in Anglo-Saxon England
(Fribourg, 1991) and available in English for the first time here. The
site was designed and programmed by Matt Sellars and can be viewed in
Firefox only.
Visitors to Anglo-Saxon.net can also view a trial database on words
and things related to food in Anglo-Saxon England. "Words and Things:
Food, Archaeology, & Anglo-Saxon Texts" was designed and programmed by
Chris Grubbs; it too must be viewed in Firefox.
