Project Archivist
Circa £20k
Thanks to a grant from MLA WM we are able to offer an interesting opportunity for a qualified archivist to work with us for up to 6 months on part of our small archives collection
The Lanchester Collection comprises the papers and publications of Frederick Lanchester one of the country's engineering pioneers and inventor of the first four wheel petrol driven motor car and relates to his work on aeronautics and motor engineering dating from 1895 to 1945. It includes personal and business correspondence, 13 of his sketchbooks, 50 of his pocket notebooks, copies of his patent applications, copies and manuscript originals of his published works and a large collection of contemporary photographs of Lanchester cars and other vehicles
We need an archivist to help make this collection more accessible to researchers and scholars by
* compiling a comprehensive accessions register for all of the deposits to minimum ISAD (G) Standards.
* reorganising the Collection to coherently incorporate later deposits
* converting existing printed lists and 'calendars' into electronic format
* cataloguing the volumes of sketchbooks and notebooks, incorporating the detailed notes where they currently exist
* cataloguing the secondary source material which is included within the Collection
We are very flexible about work patterns for this project. We have been advised that the project will require up to the equivalent of 6 months full time work but are very happy to hear from you if you would prefer to work half time or other fractions including on a daily or hourly basis over a longer contract period.
If you would like more details or to discuss this interesting opportunity please contact Pat Noon University Librarian on 0247688 7516 or by email at [log in to unmask] If you prefer please write to the address below
The closing date is 16th November 2007
