Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] med 3 certs
This is a topic that the Commercial Occupational Health Providers Association (cohpa)has been discussing for some while.
They have recently published a position paper on an alternative "Absence Advice Note" (AAN) http://www.cohpa.co.uk/fileadmin/pdfs/COHPA_position_paper_on_Sickness_Cert
ification_Jan_2007.pdf
Advise from a medical practitioner on Med3 or Private Sick note is purely advisory (as the word says) - the liability issues of determining if an employee is fit and safe to work always lies with the employer (even if medical practitioner states fit !).
There are many issues that appear on this list where you may find answers on www.cohpa.co.uk
