With apologies for cross-posting, we are currently advertising for a temporary curator, archivist or librarian, with experience of publishing archives, to assess in detail the exciting Bartholomew Archive and identify priorities, costs and resources required to make it available for public use.
Bartholomew Archive Curator
Temporary, for eight months. Part-time option available.
£26,658-£35,323 per annum pro-rata
The renowned Bartholomew mapmaking firm was founded in Edinburgh in 1826 and continued as a family business until 1980. The firm's extensive archive contains business records (principally 1870s-1980s), including manuscripts, maps, photographs, copper plates, and glass plate negatives. Bartholomew was a jobbing printer, so the archive is an invaluable source for publishing and social history, as well as cartography.
