Hello -
I am the LRC Manager of an FE college.
For some years now we have charged a 'Book deposit' of £20, payable when new students enrol and refunded at the end of their course if all LRC items have been returned and any fines paid.
It was set up by the college for two reasons:
1) To encourage return of books and payment of fines, if any.
2) To encourage students to leave 'officially' rather than just drift away, so that statistical returns for funding can be completed easily.
The down side of the system is that
1) Students who have a choice of training provider may go to one which requires fewer payments on enrolment
2) The payment has to be administered by the LRC and is a lot of work
Does anyone still charge a book deposit, and if so, how much?
Has anyone had experience of having charged a deposit and later stopped? Did it have any effect on the number of defaulted items? Did it have any other impact?
We would really like to hear from you.
I will circulate findings to the list.
Many thanks -
Priscilla Dawson
