Sorry, this may not be as exciting as the title suggests, but I'm keen
to know what policies other HE libraries have regarding security
incidents, when library users attempt to take an item out of the library
and set off the security gate.
At present, here at DMU, we put a note on the person's LMS record at the
first incident, which remains there for the duration of their course
until they are deleted from the system, but to me this seems a bit
harsh, particularly if they made a genuine mistake in their first week
of their first year and the note stays on their record for three years.
Can other libraries tell me whether you make a note on a person's LMS
record of gate alarm offences and, if so, how long you retain these
records for?
Thanks,
Jane
