We have a non-campus-networked PC in our staff area of the Library which we
have connected to the Internet via a modem and phone line (remember
those?!), so that we can use it to test off-campus access to resources such
as e-journals and databases.
We have found this very useful in helping us produce information about
accessing resources off campus. Also, if a user is having difficulty
accessing something from home, we can demonstrate to them things like how to
find the Athens login on the e-journal page.
But now the modem access is proving too slow for some tasks, and we'd like
to set up broadband access - most students have this anyway. However, this
would seem to involve installing a new phone line as well as setting up a
new broadband account.
How have other libraries dealt with this, if at all?
Thanks for any suggestions
Sue
