Hi everyone,
We have n opportunity for a fellowship (formal confirmation in
September 2007) for a Ph.D. in Tectonics/Structural Geology at the
University of Lille (Northern France; The weather here may be dreary,
but we are only 2 hours from London by the Eurostar; one hour from
Paris by the TGV).
Funding is assured for two years. We are hopeful to get additional
funding for the third year (a French Ph.D lasts three years).
The research project focuses on contractional foreland basins and salt
tectonics using physical (analogue) modelling, field, and possibly
seismic data. We are looking for applicants who have a strong
background in structural geology and, if possible, in fold-and-thrust
belts.
Knowledge of the French language would be helpful for dealing with
daily stuff (rent, food, bying your baguette, cheese, and beret), but
not necessary for the job (we may be French, but we do speak English).
