medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
One other thing that's out there is J. N. D. Kelly's _The Oxford Dictionary of the Popes_ in its 2005 update with new material by Michael Walsh. Though it's not a history of the papacy _per se_, it is a chronologically ordered series of notices in narrative form that, in the aggregate, pay considerable attention to larger contexts.
