Dear Colleagues,
My name is Jonathan Bean, and I work at Intel in Domestic Designs and Technologies Research. We are an interdisciplinary team of researchers studying the practice of domesticity around the world and how technologies are embedded in the diversity of global homes.
I will be conducting in-home interviews in København and Aalborg during the month of July. I am seeking research participants and am hoping you could help.
My research aims to understand everyday life and technology in the Danish home. I am especially interested in the following settings:
* Homes that have been changed over time by their residents,
* Very new homes or homes that are under construction,
* Homes or apartments that are small or large relative to the average,
* Cohousing (bofællesskaber) or other group/shared housing arrangements.
I would also be interested in any other settings you think would be helpful for this research.
In addition, if you know anyone who meets one or more of the following criteria, I would also be interested in talking to them:
* People who do not have one or more of the following: high-speed internet access; personal computer; mobile telephone; cable or satellite television,
* People who always have the latest technological gadget, cell phone, TV, or computer,
* People who sometimes or usually work from home,
* People who entertain often, or
* Young families, singles, and older people.
I would prefer to talk to people who make a living in fields outside of design and architecture, although interest in design is more than welcome.
The research method is simple: participants will help to document their homes with a variety of methods including video, photography, and audio recording, in conjunction with interview and mapping exercises. There will be two home visits. The first will last 2-3 hours, and the second will be shorter.
All research materials will be treated with respect and participants' identities will remain confidential. Of course, there will be an incentive for research participants.
If you know of friends or friends of friends who might like to participate, please pass their names and email address along to me. Alternatively, give them this letter and ask that they get in touch with me directly by email at [log in to unmask] or by phone at +1-510-374-0727.
Best regards,
Jonathan Bean
